Missing the thrill?

Empire of the Sun debuted the video for their new song "Alive." Ok, I am going to be honest. I do not really like this song. As a huge Empire of the Sun fan I am actually disappointed that this sounds too poppy..so encouraging..so MAINSTREAM. Besides the video basically being a big gay peyote trip(which follows the tone for most of their videos) I don't see what is SO special about this song?? I am so disappointed to be honest..actually I'm just getting more mad as I write this post. Ok, I'm done, to cope with my anger I have posted some AMAZING Empire of the Sun songs, and the video is up there. I would love YOUR thoughts on this!

Bonobo-First Fires

Bonobo 'First Fires' from Pulse Films on Vimeo.
Wow, this music video is amazing. It is easy to see we have all been here before. The flames of initial attraction manifest into flames of hatred and anger. I love how the video parraled their current state with the initial happiness of meeting each other. The director did a truly great, but heartbreaking job to convey emotions found between every couple.g

Nero-Into the Past

I mean...its good..a little too sexualized and over exerted for my taste, it almost felt like he was trying a little too hard to step away from the heavy bass drops and do something a little more psychedelic. Reminds me of Bassnectar's cozza frenzy LP more so songs like magical world where there is that constant synth beat in the background. Other than that I would listen to it again, oh and its in The Great Gatsby...this soundtrack should be delectable.

Adventures of Christopher Bosh in the Multiverse!

Apparently Christopher Bosh and Mike Miller play for the Miami Heat. Besides that, this video is weird and entertaining. I'm assuming if you like NBA basketball you will pick up on all the underlying jokes pertaining to this "Bosh" character. Other than that...I'm not really sure how to feel about this. At least I know I can create stop motion with zero art skill. This video is pretty hilarious though, and intelligently crafted.

New Works & Current Projects

Whoever reads this blog may not be aware that I am currently in school with a major in English and a minor in Film Studies. As a creative person I like to feel that my life revolves around capturing something greater from emotions and thoughts. I look to my environment, peers, strangers, and other artists as inspiration and believe that film captures an array of thoughts/emotions/experience through sight and sound. With that being said I have included a link to my vimeo page which broadcasts all of my current work that has been completed. The first film I ever made was a documentary on my grandma who is the care taker to my grandpa who suffers from dementia(I have included it below). It is crazy to think that at one time I was almost in tears over not knowing how to render or edit in final cut pro, and to this day I am still learning and growing. Over the summer I hope to thoroughly educate myself in every Adobe software program as well as more advanced editing with Final Cut. I think everyone can learn something from taking a look at their first works. You have the ideas but you don't have the skill, and it is crazy to watch what I create now to what I first created(and kind of embarrassing). I have a lot of exciting events and projects planned for the summer that I will go into detail on in another post, including two music videos, a documentary, and a commercial for a photography company. Although I have already tasted the sweet burn of rejection from a festival I submitted work to, I feel this was only more inspiration to turn myself into a self made and self educated filmmaker with the skills to exceed my peers.

My first film ever(so cut me some slack!)

Washed Up

Lord Huron released a new music video for their song "Lonesome Dreams." I love the old timey look and feel of the video. It follows a man(Huron) who is washed ashore and befriends island natives(Admiral Blaquefut) who assist him to get back to sea. The video is based off the first installment of a fiction adventure series by author George Ranger Johnson also titled "Lonesome Dreams." The video was directed by LA based filmmaker Evan Weinerman.

Welcome Back

It has been a few months since I wrote my last post. Obviously the constraints of life with the tiring efforts of school have kept me away from sharing good music with my readers. Well I am here to tell you I am back in full force. I have updated my layout and everything else for that matter. I felt like my blog needed a bit of a facelift before I could really re-commit to it. Although I wish I could post at least 50 songs right now, I will stick with one artist at a time to not overwhelm the readers. Today I am posting two songs from a band Sir Sly. They have been up and coming among the indie/electronic pop scene with their new song "Ghost" and song "Easy Now." Both of these songs can be found on their new album "Sir Sly" Hope you enjoy because I love them and am featuring their song "Ghost" in a short film I'm currently working on!
