Missing the thrill?

Empire of the Sun debuted the video for their new song "Alive." Ok, I am going to be honest. I do not really like this song. As a huge Empire of the Sun fan I am actually disappointed that this sounds too poppy..so encouraging..so MAINSTREAM. Besides the video basically being a big gay peyote trip(which follows the tone for most of their videos) I don't see what is SO special about this song?? I am so disappointed to be honest..actually I'm just getting more mad as I write this post. Ok, I'm done, to cope with my anger I have posted some AMAZING Empire of the Sun songs, and the video is up there. I would love YOUR thoughts on this!

Bonobo-First Fires

Bonobo 'First Fires' from Pulse Films on Vimeo.
Wow, this music video is amazing. It is easy to see we have all been here before. The flames of initial attraction manifest into flames of hatred and anger. I love how the video parraled their current state with the initial happiness of meeting each other. The director did a truly great, but heartbreaking job to convey emotions found between every couple.g

Nero-Into the Past

I mean...its good..a little too sexualized and over exerted for my taste, it almost felt like he was trying a little too hard to step away from the heavy bass drops and do something a little more psychedelic. Reminds me of Bassnectar's cozza frenzy LP more so songs like magical world where there is that constant synth beat in the background. Other than that I would listen to it again, oh and its in The Great Gatsby...this soundtrack should be delectable.

Adventures of Christopher Bosh in the Multiverse!

Apparently Christopher Bosh and Mike Miller play for the Miami Heat. Besides that, this video is weird and entertaining. I'm assuming if you like NBA basketball you will pick up on all the underlying jokes pertaining to this "Bosh" character. Other than that...I'm not really sure how to feel about this. At least I know I can create stop motion with zero art skill. This video is pretty hilarious though, and intelligently crafted.

New Works & Current Projects

Whoever reads this blog may not be aware that I am currently in school with a major in English and a minor in Film Studies. As a creative person I like to feel that my life revolves around capturing something greater from emotions and thoughts. I look to my environment, peers, strangers, and other artists as inspiration and believe that film captures an array of thoughts/emotions/experience through sight and sound. With that being said I have included a link to my vimeo page which broadcasts all of my current work that has been completed. The first film I ever made was a documentary on my grandma who is the care taker to my grandpa who suffers from dementia(I have included it below). It is crazy to think that at one time I was almost in tears over not knowing how to render or edit in final cut pro, and to this day I am still learning and growing. Over the summer I hope to thoroughly educate myself in every Adobe software program as well as more advanced editing with Final Cut. I think everyone can learn something from taking a look at their first works. You have the ideas but you don't have the skill, and it is crazy to watch what I create now to what I first created(and kind of embarrassing). I have a lot of exciting events and projects planned for the summer that I will go into detail on in another post, including two music videos, a documentary, and a commercial for a photography company. Although I have already tasted the sweet burn of rejection from a festival I submitted work to, I feel this was only more inspiration to turn myself into a self made and self educated filmmaker with the skills to exceed my peers.

My first film ever(so cut me some slack!)

hope you enjoy my early works and feel free to give me your opinion!

Washed Up

Lord Huron released a new music video for their song "Lonesome Dreams." I love the old timey look and feel of the video. It follows a man(Huron) who is washed ashore and befriends island natives(Admiral Blaquefut) who assist him to get back to sea. The video is based off the first installment of a fiction adventure series by author George Ranger Johnson also titled "Lonesome Dreams." The video was directed by LA based filmmaker Evan Weinerman.

Welcome Back

It has been a few months since I wrote my last post. Obviously the constraints of life with the tiring efforts of school have kept me away from sharing good music with my readers. Well I am here to tell you I am back in full force. I have updated my layout and everything else for that matter. I felt like my blog needed a bit of a facelift before I could really re-commit to it. Although I wish I could post at least 50 songs right now, I will stick with one artist at a time to not overwhelm the readers. Today I am posting two songs from a band Sir Sly. They have been up and coming among the indie/electronic pop scene with their new song "Ghost" and song "Easy Now." Both of these songs can be found on their new album "Sir Sly" Hope you enjoy because I love them and am featuring their song "Ghost" in a short film I'm currently working on!

ESCAPISM THROUGH FILM

Today I pulled up my blog, clicked on the pencil, and stared at a blank post waiting for creation. Then a thought came over me, I have absolutely no idea what to post. As much as I like saving my readers from mundane and overplayed music, some part of my being was refusing to create a music post. My thoughts went to film..hmm..Django Unchained..talk about how I don't like Tarantino(gasp)..no too cliche..what else..writing..umm..music videos...um tobacco..um I don't know. After a quick peak into my indecisive mind I realized something. Sometimes we don't need to post about something popular, cool, wanted, sometimes, for our sakes, we should just post whatever the hell we want to. I haven't updated my blog in quite sometime and maybe one of the reasons was for the fact I was afraid people wouldn't read it, they'd skim over my writing, listen to the song, and carry on with their day. Although I have no idea what you people do when you look at my blog, and this is not an inspirational post about doing what makes you happy, I think my blog should be what I want it to be. Not sure what exactly that is, but thats how I like it. So closing thoughts---this is not an inspirational post, if you find it inspiring, thank you.

Anyways, lately I have been doing absolutely nothing and I like it. I recently have been on a nostalgia kick, including but not limited to watching every movie from the Harry Potter series, multiple times. After viewing The Hobbit(LOVED IT) at Cinnebarre with a pitcher of beer, I rekindled my love for LOTR which spawned a Lord of The Rings viewing party. Re-watching the movies I fell in love with as a strange middle schooler made me realize something about my creative process. It has always been there. It is exciting to re-watch movies and appreciate elements like cinematography, editing, shots, and POV which I didn't latch onto at first, but obviously something drew me into movies even as a child. I always loved the idea of telling a story, but not limited to books, a story with music, emotion, elements(natural and metaphorical). It was like you were capable of invoking so much more than human emotion. You could create worlds, whole worlds, different from our own but alike. Movies allow you to travel, they allow you to dream, and sometimes they allow(or force) you to be realistic. For movies like Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter I have come to the realization I am, and have been my whole life, obsessed with other worlds than our own. The idea of creating this story outside of our precious earth, before the time of "man", or hidden from muggles is so tantalizing to me. The pure fact you can escape this earth and experience another one. Ive never been a fan of sic-fi really so Im not talking like outerspace multiple universes, I mean a world we can relate to but not our own. Its the factor of escapism without going anywhere. Sometimes I hate people, and I hate America, and I think everyone is fat and lazy, all I have to do is pop in two towers, watch a bunch or orcs destroy people, stress for middle earth, worry about Frodo and the ring, drool over Legolas, and BAM I'm currently on a free vacation away from the stresses of this earth. By the time its over, I'm envious and enticed by this other world, but somewhat appreciative of my own. Film and writing is a great element of escape and creation. I admire J.R.R Tolkien and J.K Rowling for creating this WHOLE world outside our own. With its characters, language, cultures, civilization. I am amazed at the depths of the human imagination. Which leads me to believe, everyone could come up with some ideal "earth" in their head. Maybe not to the creative genius as J.R.R Tolkien, but there is some kind of imagination in everyone. I wonder what earths people would create. Cartoon earths, the animation people and the real people dualing for TV time, an earth where humans cater to dogs, an earth where sharks can walk and they're constantly at war with the humans. Although these are just ramblings in my brain, it can all be created. What earth would you create and what earth thus far has been created in your favorite film/book/etc?

Today I leave you with "The Riders of Rohan" from the Two Towers. Beautiful piece!Thats all
